Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Financial Aid Specialist II on the Gainesville campus. The Financial Aid Specialist II is responsible for the accuracy, maintenance, disbursement, and assimilation of electronic data pertaining to recipients of federal, state, institutional, and private student financial aid.

Responsibilities

  • Audits all state funded student awards and takes action to correct the issues. This involves pulling reports from GFSC and comparing them to Financial Aid and Business Office accounts on a student-by-student basis. Accounts include GA HERO, HOPE Grant, HOPE GED, HOPE Scholarship (Associate and Bachelor), Dual Enrollment, Public Safety Grant, GA ROTC Future Officers, ROTC Grants, Zell Miller Grant, Zell Miller Scholarship (Associate and Bachelor), GA Student Access Loan, GA Military Scholarship ,GA National Guard and REACH. This position serves as the internal auditor for the State Funds, and prepares and examines financial records. They ensure that financial records are accurate so that UNG runs efficiently.
  • Reconciles all funds listed above on both a monthly and yearly basis. End-of-year reconciliation for each of the funds listed above must be completed by deadlines established by GSFC (usually in June) so that UNG will be in compliance and continue receiving funding for summer and the following year.
  • Performs data exchange between UNG and Georgia Student Finance Commission. This includes invoicing GSFC for funds, downloading student applications, and downloading high school files regarding HOPE eligibility. These data exchanges are between UNG¿s BANNER and GSFC¿s SURFER.
  • Assists counselors with returns of state funds and payment of retroactive state funds. Adjusts reconciliations of previous terms when they are affected by these changes.
  • Assists with making sure that all students have a ZHAHOPE Record.
  • Assists with compiling data for HOPE Program Audits
  • Provides office backup and performs other related job duties as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of financial aid regulations mandated by the institution, the state and the federal government. 
  • Knowledge in the area of technology sufficient to understand and utilize software and processes. 
  • Effective time management skills; excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to understand technical and regulatory requirements for transmission and receipt of data files.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of Financial Aid or banking experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
