The Business Analyst for Financial Aid Technology will support the Assistant Director of Technology in ensuring the effective implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the Ellucian Banner financial aid system and related processes. This position will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify technology-driven solutions, streamline operations, and ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent technical skills, and a deep understanding of financial aid systems and processes.

The Business Analyst will directly contribute to students’ success by ensuring timely and compliant financial aid delivery through advanced technological and analytical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Ellucian Banner System Support

  • Assist in the setup and testing of new-year financial aid systems in Banner, including creating rules, troubleshooting issues, and implementing system updates.
  • Develop and maintain queries, selection sets, and reports to identify students with FAFSA issues (e.g., C-flags) or other eligibility concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Technology to create and manage fund setup and accurate awarding rules.
  • Support the integration of data between Banner and other systems, such as CampusLogic, to ensure accurate information flow.

Technology and Data Management

  • Utilize PL/SQL, or similar programming tools to support system enhancements and resolve technical issues.
  • Work with IT and other departments to address system performance, test updates, and implement new features.
  • Monitor the transfer and reconciliation of data between internal systems and Department of Education platforms.

Department of Education Systems

  • Assist in sending and receiving Institutional Student Information Report (ISIR) files and corrections through EDConnect software.
  • Support the exchange of Pell and Direct Loan files with the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system, ensuring compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage student data in the NSLDS system for transfer student tracking.

Packaging and Award Management

  • Help update packaging rules, tracking groups, and budget definitions to ensure accurate awarding of federal, state, and institutional aid.
  • Assist in reviewing and recalculating student eligibility for financial aid awards, as needed.
  • Support the production and distribution of award letters and summer packaging processes.
  • Partner with Admissions and other departments to ensure prospective student aid packaging aligns with university goals.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure all processes comply with federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of audits, reconciliations, and reports as required by leadership and regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

  •    Experience working with financial aid systems, preferably Ellucian Banner.
    •    Proficiency in data analysis tools, programming languages (e.g., ProC, PL/SQL), and report writing.
    •    Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    •    Knowledge of Department of Education systems, including COD, NSLDS, and EDConnect.
    •    Prior experience in higher education or financial aid operations.
    •    Familiarity with CampusLogic or similar financial aid software.
    •    Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
