MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree and Two (2) years of work-related experience. Significant knowledge of federal and state regulations related to financial aid. Ability to comprehend complex federal, state, and institutional regulations to formulate policies and procedures; exercise independent judgment and identify and resolve complex issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Three (3) years of experience using BANNER student financial aid systems. Strong analytical skills to analyze and interpret financial data. Knowledge of Federal Financial Aid and Georgia Student Finance Systems CHECS/SURFER / COD/ NSLDS /Ed Connect/ FSA PARTNER. Experience with awarding, verification, review of appeals, and counseling students on federal financial aid requirements. Strong Customer Service skills and ability to diffuse escalated student concerns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Financial Aid within the Student Affairs division, the Assistant Director assists with the day-to-day management of the Financial Aid Office. The Assistant Director position is responsible for providing leadership and supervision of the Financial Aid staff (Financial Aid Technicians and temporary staff). Manages a functional area within the Financial Aid office such as operations, training, policy development, or outreach initiatives. This position will interact on a regular basis with leadership and staff within OFA, Business Office, Registrar, and Admission, academic units, students, and parents. This position typically will advise and counsel: OFA staff, students and families, and other campus units both administrative and academic.
Serve as a member of the Office of Financial Aid Leadership (OFA). Collaborate closely with leadership in establishing policies and procedures governing the award and distribution of financial aid resources with an emphasis on federal and state compliance. Assists OFA Leadership in the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Department; including but not limited to daily Banner processing. Interview, hire, and complete performance evaluations at scheduled intervals. When necessary, the discipline of subordinate employees through TCSG’s positive discipline policy.
As a member of the OFA Leadership responsible for a strong focus on customer service including the ability to diffuse escalated situations while meeting customer expectations for assistance. Development of best practices of ensuring effective customer service. This position meets with both current and potential students and parents who have questions, beyond the expertise of financial aid specialists and/or technicians. Provides input, guidance, and direct resolution of student complaints within defined scope or responsibility. Supports and participates in the appeals process.
Manage the Financial Aid website and work closely with the college web coordinator to ensure userfriendly, informative, and accurate information regards federal, state, and institutional policies. Responsible for and manage the student customer satisfaction survey each quarter. Assist in the development, preparation, and distribution of informational material pertaining to the financial aid program. Assist in the development, preparation, and execution of outreach and financial aid literacy efforts.
Observes and review for accuracy and completeness of appropriate documentation/forms /processes/procedures. Manage the Federal Return of Title IV funds calculations for Official and Unofficial withdrawals and cost of attendance calculations and recalculations of student enrollment eligibility.
Oversee and supervise areas of processing including federal (Satisfactory Academic Progress, Outreach, etc.), ensuring all accounts are reconciled monthly, aid in resolving all processing issues, and providing guidance and assistance when needed specifically in the form of regulation interpretation. Determine the eligibility for programs including federally funded Title IV student aid, state-funded programs.
Participates in developing, monitoring, evaluating, and recommending improvements to processes, procedures, workflow, and/or standards, ensuring alignment with the college mission, values, goals, and objectives and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Facilitates and supports the delivery of financial aid education and counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of the financial aid process. Participates in college and community outreach events giving presentations to various audiences on utilizing financial aid to support their education. Serve on the institution’s strategic team and other job-related committees.

Demonstrate strong competencies in various areas essential to the role. They should possess skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs, as well as proficiency in decision-making and problem-solving. Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with the public are crucial, along with strong oral and written communication abilities. The candidate should have thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional sources of financial aid, as well as an understanding of institutional organization, policies, procedures, and administrative practices. Familiarity with relevant federal and state regulations is also essential. Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to follow detailed instructions and consistently apply rules, delegate responsibility and authority appropriately, act as a liaison between multiple parties in resolving conflict and maintain accurate and reliable records.
