Job Summary:
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position
of Assistant Director of Financial Aid. This position will be located at one of our
campuses (to be determined) and occasional travel to other GNTC campuses as well as
overnight travel for training may be required. In conjunction with the Director of Financial
Aid, this position is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the college’s
student financial aid functions. This position will assist in the coordination of financial
programs available to enrolled students, including scholarships, grants, the work-study
program, and student loans.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Assists the Director in the day-to day operations of the Financial Aid Department;
• Supervises and assists financial aid staff to resolve difficult problems;
• Assists in coordinating the financial assistance programs available to enrolled
students, including scholarships, grants, loans, and work study programs;
• Evaluates unusual/mitigating circumstance documentation or information
provided by the student;
• Exercises sound judgment by making adjustments or revisions to costs,
contribution, need, or dependency status as exceptions to the prescribed
process;
• Prepares and analyzes operational statistics, data and reports such as grades
and enrollment status or award status to verify continued compliance and
eligibility of student receiving aid under federal and institutional guidelines;
• Notifies students of changes in eligibility of awards and alternative to amend the
situation;
• Provides guidance and general advice to student regarding financial aid, program
choice/change educational requisites, indebtedness, school policy and
procedure, and state policies;
• Assists in the preparation of and presents information regarding federal financial
aid, scholarships, employment and grants for various campus groups, high
school students, and parents at meetings, group discussions, workshops, and
recruitment sessions;
• Submits reports and data as required by federal and state agencies in a timely
manner;
• Oversees administration of Veterans financial aid program benefits;
• Maintains compliance with federal and state laws, TCSG policies, and other
policies related to financial aid;
• Prepares and analyzes operational reports and other data;
• Supervises employees, including prioritizing and assigning work, evaluating at
scheduled intervals;
• Answers questions regarding individual student financial aid issues or
complaints; and
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, accounting, or a
related field. Proficiency in the use of Banner or similar student financial aid software. At
least three (3) years of experience in the field of financial aid. Postsecondary Financial
Aid experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis. Excellent written
and verbal communication skills, a customer service-oriented attitude, proficiency in the
use of technology in an office environment, and the ability to multi-task and work as a
team member in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three (3) years of work experience in a financial aid office at a postsecondary
institution in a supervisory capacity. Experience in the use of EDE, EDConnect,
SURFER, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Physical Demands:
Work is typically performed in a classroom or office environment with intermittent sitting,
standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or moves
objects to a light to medium weight. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized
for data entry purposes.
If the job involves driving, physical requirements include the ability to operate a vehicle
and sit for extended periods.
Salary: $60,000 - $65,000
Benefits:
If this is a part-time position, no benefits are available. If this is a full-time position,
benefits include: 13 paid State holidays, annual and sick leave, a State of Georgia
benefits package that includes Health, Dental, Vision, Life, etc. A choice of two
retirement systems: Teachers Retirement System of Georgia or the Employee’s
Retirement System of Georgia based upon position and 401K options.
